As part of the Neighborhood Schools Initiative, Milwaukee Public Schools commissioned Barrientos Design & Consulting, Inc. to design a three-story classroom and administrative addition to the existing school. The new addition houses approximately 320 new students, teachers and support staff.
The major goal of the project was to bring the entire school into code compliance, meeting ADA requirements.
The building is clad in clay brick and burnished block. It is framed with precast planks and bearing walls. The interior design is playful in keeping with the building’s main ‘tenants’ as well as the color palette which consists mainly of primary colors.
